Do you have any memories of the popular music enjoyed in the 60's? If you weren't around during those infamous years, you've probably been told about The Beatles and their big hits. Oh, what a stir The Fab Four made around the world.
John, Paul, George and Ringo brought their rock and roll band from Great Britain to the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. That was just the beginning of their fame in America. Their performances were almost immediately sold out wherever they went and they influenced the lifestyle of most young people. The Beatles were even declared by Billboard Magazine as the Best Artist of the Decade in the 1960s.
Folk rock made an impression on many lives in the 60's. The Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan as well as Simon Garfunkel became very popular in the 60's. You probably heard all about "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" by the Kingston Trio. Steppenwolf, with "Magic Carpet Ride," brought acid rock on the music scene.
Chubby Checker did "The Twist" and started a huge dance craze early in the 60s. It's popularity seemed to help relieve the tension of the Cold War for the nation. "The Loco-Motion" was also a dance song that made the list of popular songs in 1962, and then again in the 70's and in the 80's. Doo-Wop was popular for a little while in the mid 60's. Pop music of the 60's will surely be remembered for a long time.
